Notable Deaths in 2005 Daily Pilot December 30, 2005 BRIAN 'BUBBA' KAPKO Aug. 28, age 19 The former Estancia High School football standout died in a car crash in Colorado. He and three other friends were on their way to Denver after a volleyball tournament in Boulder. He graduated from high school in 2004 and attended Johnson & Wales University. The Bubba Kapko Memorial tournament was held in November at the Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club's Los Lagos course. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Notable deaths in the sports world in 2005 Daily Pilot January 1, 2006 BUBBA KAPKO A former Newport-Mesa Dream Team performer as a fullback and linebacker for the Estancia High football team, he died in a car accident in Colorado on Aug. 28. He was 19. An estimated 850 attended a local memorial service for him and the inaugural Bubba Kapko Memorial golf tournament raised an estimated $8,500 for the Estancia Athletic Boosters and the Bubba Kapko Memorial fund. The men's volleyball team at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, for which Kapko planned to play this year, has dedicated its 2006 season to him. Home
